MCR 703 Multidrive /Space Multidrive
MCR 703 MultiDrive and MCR 703 Space MultiDrive are the most versatile advanced rheometers available. Alongside all the standard features of the MCR 503, they can also be equipped with an additional lower drive unit. This means you can perform rheological tests with two torque transducers and drive units at once, opening up multiple possibilities for your research. There are no limitations regarding test modes, measuring systems, accessories, temperature devices, and measurement precision. Additionally, MCR 703 Space MultiDrive offers maximum working space, making it easy to work with accessories and additional instruments.
Key features
One rheometer, all rheological working modes
This is the perfect rheometer for advanced measurement-precision requirements. A combination of two drive units enables you to perform rheological measurements in Combined Motor Transducer (CMT) mode and in Separate Motor Transducer (SMT) mode. Using a single air-bearing-supported EC motor in CMT mode, you can make the most of the motor’s real-time position control (TruStrain) and perform ‘classic’ stress-controlled tests. In SMT mode, one motor is operated solely as a torque transducer, while the other is used as the drive unit to get the purest results. This makes the advanced rheometer ideal even for transient regimes such as stress relaxation, start-up shear measurements, or oscillatory tests across a wide frequency range.

Push the limits of material characterization
In counter-movement mode, the advanced rheometer employs both air-bearing-supported EC motors as drive units, as well as torque transducers which move in opposite directions. Create, for example, a fixed stagnation plane in a sample while visualizing with a microscope for advanced structure analysis throughout the full measurement. In combination with the universal extensional fixture, this mode also permits extensional tests down to minimal measured torques and up to unachieved elongations with Hencky strains larger than eight. With these capabilities, this advanced rheometer offers more comprehensive characterization of strain hardening. The counter-movement mode simply doubles the speed score up to a maximum speed difference of 6,000 rpm.
DMA in torsion, tension, bending, compression, and more
MCR 703 is more than just a rotational rheometer – it’s a multifunctional advanced rheometer that also supports dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). By replacing the lower rotational drive with a linear drive, it performs DMA in bending or compression using geometries such as three-point-bending, cantilever, or parallel plates. Furthermore, in combination with geometries for films, fibers, and rectangular and cylindrical samples, the linear drive can be used to perform DMA in tension, while the upper rotational drive is used for DMA in torsion. This also enables axial-torsional DMA on a single specimen within a single test definition, and allows determination of the Poisson’s ratio and fast direction-dependent characterization of anisotropic materials.

Previously unthinkable applications
MCR 703 Space MultiDrive takes the exceptional performance of our flagship rheometer MCR 703 MultiDrive even further. It’s engineered to offer unique modularity, flexibility, freedom, and functionality for any type of rheology and combined methods. The open instrument design maximizes working space so you can connect MCR 703 Space MultiDrive with a variety of additional external setups for advanced material characterization (e.g., confocal microscopy and rheology at the same time). In addition, the rheometer’s separate electronics box now makes it possible to set up the rheometer where space is limited or in a laboratory glovebox, even when using inert gas (nitrogen, argon) atmosphere (e.g., for high-temperature measurements of samples with a certain hazard level).
More than 200 accessories
MCR 703 MultiDrive and MCR 703 Space MultiDrive can be paired with any measuring system, temperature device, and/or application-specific accessory recognizable from the Anton Paar MCR series, in order to carry out standard and sophisticated rheological analyses. This allows the testing platform to be used not only for rheology and DMA but also as a powder rheometer, tribometer, and universal testing machine. The Toolmaster feature automatically recognizes and configures all connected devices and measuring systems. Additionally, the QuickConnect function allows one-handed connection of the measuring systems. This modularity makes our advanced rheometers highly flexible and ensures that adaption of the configuration to your needs is straightforward.
